Paulus Potter silk pocket square - 'The Bull'
'The Bull' or in Dutch 'De Stier' was painted by Dutch Master Paulus Potter (1625-1654) in 1647. This oil on canvas painting depicts a bull in a Dutch landscape. Initially Potter only painted the bull, but later attached new canvas to the left, right and top of the painting, and added the cow, sheep, farmer, meadow and rest of the countryside, with the church of Rijswijk (where he lived at that time) on the horizon. Not all of these details can be seen on our pocket square though.
Although Paulus Potter died at the age of 28, he is well known for his realistic paintings of animals in the Dutch countryside. The painting is part of the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague.
The pocket squares are printed in Macclesfield, a town in England with a history of over 300 years of silk production and printing.
The edges of this pocket square are expertly rolled by hand by our artisan tie maker in Italy.
